The Good Funeral Awards Story

It’s remarkable that an industry whose default mode is empathy and professionalism towards its clients has traditionally given so little recognition to those in the profession who are leading the way and setting the best example with the things they do for their customers. But over the course of the last decade this has begun to change with the introduction of the Good Funeral Awards. The awards have grown from an initial gathering of five people to become a yearly event with over 200 invited guests. And the awards themselves have become known as ‘the Oscars of the funeral trade’.

The awards have many categories from ‘most promising new funeral director’ to ‘best crematorium’ and ‘excellent coffin manufacturer’, and every year they produce a large number of nominees from across the nation. A big part of what makes them special is the fact that they are open to everyone irrespective of their company’s size or length of time in the funeral industry.

2019 was the first year that the awards have been organised by the Association of Green Funeral Directors and the organisers would like to heartily thank the Funeral Service Journal for their advice and support along with the joint main sponsors Greenfield Creations and Ecoffins.
